Paramedicine Practitioner, I
Formerly referred to as Primary Care Paramedics (PCP), these practitioners are the standard for pre-hospital emergency care in Ontario. They are graduates of an approved two year college paramedic program and hold the Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant certification from Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The function of Primary Care Paramedic is to provide emergency patient care, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), patient immobilization and extrication, oxygen therapy, basic trauma life support, blood glucose testing, and non-emergency patient care.
The Paramedicine Practitioner, I is certified by a physician to:
- Operate a Semi-Automated External Defibrillator
- Provide Blood Glucometry
Also administer medications, including:
- Epinephrine
- Diphenhydramine
- Salbutimol
- Acetaminophen
- Glucagon
- Ibuprofen
- ASA
- Ketorolac
- Nitroglycerin
